Fort Worth’s Most Dangerous Intersection Sits at the Edge of Downtown, Five-Year Crash Analysis Finds

Patterson Law Group ranked every intersection in the city using 80,773 TxDOT crash reports and built an interactive map of the 10 worst

FORT WORTH, TX, UNITED STATES, September 3, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The intersection of Henderson Street and the Belknap and Weatherford one-way pair, on the west edge of downtown, is the most dangerous intersection in Fort Worth, according to a new analysis of five years of state crash records released today by Patterson Law Group. The location logged 197 police-reported crashes from 2021 through 2025, 73 of them with injuries, and its 51 crashes in 2025 were the most recorded at any Fort Worth intersection in a single year.

The analysis draws on every crash reported to the Texas Department of Transportation inside the Fort Worth city limits between January 2021 and December 2025, a total of 80,773 crashes that killed 603 people and left 2,679 with suspected serious injuries. About 43 percent of those crashes, 34,776, happened at or approaching an intersection, and intersection crashes killed 160 people.

The findings are published with an interactive map that lets readers click any of the 10 intersections and see its crash count for each year, how many crashes involved a left turn or a red-light-style angle collision, how many happened after dark, the peak hour, and how many struck pedestrians, then zoom to street level to see the intersection itself. The map is free for news outlets and public agencies to embed on their own sites.

Rather than count crashes alone, the firm ranked every intersection in the city by a Danger Score that weights each crash by the worst injury reported, so a wreck that sends someone to the hospital counts for more than a fender bender. The 10 intersections that ranked highest produced 1,410 crashes in five years. Someone was hurt in 493 of them.

The 10 most dangerous intersections in Fort Worth, 2021-2025:

– Henderson St at Belknap/Weatherford (downtown): 197 crashes, 73 with injuries
– E Seminary Dr at I-35W: 183 crashes, 59 with injuries
– E Berry St at I-35W: 130 crashes, 45 with injuries, 1 death
– Overton Ridge Blvd at Chisholm Trail Pkwy: 100 crashes, 46 with injuries
– Trinity Blvd at SH 360: 142 crashes, 50 with injuries
– S Hulen St at I-20 and Southwest Blvd: 126 crashes, 56 with injuries
– N Main St and NW 28th St (Stockyards): 142 crashes, 40 with injuries
– Crowley Rd and James Ave at I-20: 142 crashes, 42 with injuries
– W Risinger Rd and S Hulen St: 105 crashes, 49 with injuries
– E Belknap St and Weatherford St at Grove St: 143 crashes, 33 with injuries

Key findings

– Left turns are the biggest single problem. Citywide, 31 percent of intersection crashes involved a vehicle turning left. At the top 10 it is 40 percent, and at W Risinger Rd and S Hulen St it is 82 percent.
– Five of the 10 are where a city street crosses freeway frontage roads, on I-35W, I-20 and SH 360, or the Chisholm Trail Parkway. Drivers leaving the freeway are still carrying highway speed while cross-street drivers have to clear two wide signals back to back.
– At the No. 1 intersection, crashes in which a car going straight hits a car beside it turning left run at 14 percent, nearly four times the citywide rate of 4 percent, a pattern that points to lane confusion on the one-way pair.
– Crashes at N Main St and NW 28th St in the Stockyards are climbing faster than at any other intersection in the top 10, from 13 in 2021 to 48 in 2025. The increase is concentrated in weekday afternoon rush hour, not evenings or weekends, while the surrounding Stockyards intersections have stayed flat.
– Pedestrians were involved in 2 percent of Fort Worth crashes but 26 percent of the deaths: 1,426 crashes and 157 deaths citywide, 506 crashes and 31 deaths at intersections.
– A third of intersection crashes happen in dark or dusk conditions. At the I-35W frontage roads it is closer to half.
– The worst hour is 4 to 5 p.m. and the worst day is Friday, both citywide and at intersections.

Methodology

Source data is the Texas Department of Transportation Crash Records Information System (CRIS), the statewide database of police-reported crashes, queried on September 2, 2026 for every crash with a City of Fort Worth location and a crash year of 2021 through 2025. Crashes coded as intersection or intersection related were grouped by their reported GPS coordinates into clusters no more than 300 feet across, with paired signals on either side of a freeway or one-way pair combined into a single intersection. Each crash was weighted by its most severe reported injury: fatal or suspected serious injury 10 points, suspected minor injury 3, possible injury 1.5, and no injury 1. CRIS includes only crashes reported to police with at least $1,000 in damage or an injury, and traffic volume was not available, so the ranking measures harm, not risk per vehicle.
