The World of Kidtropolis offers themed evening programming for school-age children as demand for after-hours activities grows in Richmond.
Children’s play centres across Metro Vancouver are seeing increased interest in evening programming as parents look for structured after-hours activities for school-age children beyond the standard daytime schedule. The World of Kidtropolis, an indoor playground and miniature city in Richmond, is among the facilities that have added themed evening programs including Kids Night Out and Nerf Night Out as families seek alternatives to screen-based recreation during non-school hours.
Indoor play facilities in the region have responded by expanding their operating models to include dedicated evening programs that serve a different purpose than daytime drop-in visits. These programs target children ages five and older and offer parents an option for evening entertainment that does not require direct adult supervision throughout the event. The format has gained traction among families with working parents, those looking for occasional date-night alternatives on weekends, and children who enjoy the social aspect of structured group activities outside of regular school environments.
The World of Kidtropolis, an indoor playground and miniature city in Richmond that has operated for nine years, has developed a roster of evening programs that give children access to the facility in a new context. Its Kids Night Out program runs during evening hours and features supervised play in the centre’s themed zones, which include a miniature city setting, a dedicated preschool area, and imaginative play stations arranged throughout the facility. The centre also hosts dedicated Nerf Night Out events, which have attracted regular attendance as a recurring activity for children ages eight and older who participate in structured blaster-style games facilitated by staff members in the facility’s play areas.
“Parents are increasingly looking for evening activities that give their children a social, screen-free experience outside of regular school and extracurricular schedules,” said Aleem Kassam, Owner of The World of Kidtropolis. “Themed events give children a chance to interact with peers in a structured setting while offering parents more flexibility in their evening plans. We have seen consistent demand for these programs since we introduced evening hours, and the response tells us families in Richmond value having indoor options available beyond daytime operating hours.”
The Richmond facility maintains year-round programming that includes after-school clubhouse care for school-age children, toddler drop-in sessions through its Stop Drop and Play program, seasonal summer and winter camps, birthday party packages, and field trip offerings alongside its growing evening events calendar. The after-hours programs make use of the centre’s existing indoor play space and themed areas without requiring operational changes to its daytime schedule, allowing Kidtropolis to serve both daytime visitors and evening program participants from the same facility efficiently.
The Lower Mainland has seen steady demand for children’s enrichment options outside of standard school hours, with indoor play centres and recreation providers across the region expanding evening availability to accommodate families with working parents and busy daytime schedules. The shift mirrors broader changes in how families allocate after-school and evening time, with structured activities outside the home increasingly valued as a complement to school and sports programming. Facilities that offer evening programming are better positioned to serve families seeking year-round, weather-independent activity options for their children throughout Metro Vancouver. Indoor centres with evening hours provide an alternative to outdoor activities during the cooler months when daylight hours are shorter.
